It’s here! My new book "Ula and Mrs. Boob: a weaning story" is finally out! ( in both German and English versions)
This project has been in my heart for a long time, but it wasn’t until the beginning of 2024 -while spending time in Brazil - that I found the perfect moment to sit down and start drawing.
This book is for parents who are facing the challenge of weaning. Many of you, who’ve just started following me, might be at the beginning of this journey. But the breastfeeding path is filled with tough moments. I breastfed my daughter for more than 2 years and for me, weaning was even harder than the beginning. It’s a time when we receive less support. The lactation consultants and midwives are no longer there to guide us like in the early days. And suddenly, we’re left wondering how to navigate this stage.
There are many books to help children with things like giving up the pacifier, the bottle, or starting kindergarten. But very few children's books talk about breastfeeding and even fewer address weaning. While there are plenty of guides for parents in the form of written books, there are very few illustrated books specifically for children to help them through this transition. "Ula and Mrs. Boob" aims to fill that gap by offering families a gentle, loving way to support their little ones during this special time.
Even though I don’t have formal training as a children’s book illustrator, my background in architecture and interior design has been incredibly helpful. In creating this book, I drew inspiration from moments of our everyday life, including our time in Brazil. We spent six months renovating a house in the mountains amidst the jungle. We enjoyed afternoons cuddling in our hammock and reading together, which made those moments even more special. The name "Ula" comes from my daughter, as it's what she calls her imaginary friend. While we don't have a puppy (unfortunately), as child in Uruguay, I had a little white dog my parents got me, and I loved adding that detail to the story.
To make the story even more appealing to children, I incorporated magical characters like Mrs. Boob, bringing a touch of fantasy that captures their imagination. The illustrations blend all these elements into a whimsical and enchanting tale.
What makes this book even more special? The book is printed on demand in Germany, meaning no unnecessary paper waste—just a sustainable, meaningful way to bring stories to life.
I hope this book brings love and support to all families ♡
